Ice Time

Welcome!

For 6 seasons my wife and I have worked at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. What follows are pictures taken over the years.

About McMurdo

McMurdo is located on Ross Island about 2400 miles south of Christchurch, New Zealand and 850 miles from the South Pole. Both Scott and Shackleton used Ross Island as their starting point on expediations into Antarctica.

Today McMurdo is the largest station in Antarctica. During the summer the population will climb to over 1000 people. McMurdo is the supply hub for the South Pole. Italians, French, Australian and New Zealand scientists and support staff pass through as they travel to their camps. The main New Zealand base is located less then 3 miles from McMurdo.

For my wife and I, plus most of the people on station our job is to support the scientists. To support the scientists requires people, to support large numbers of people in one location a town is needed. Electricians, plumbers, cooks, janitors, carpenters, computer technicians, riggers, doctors, dentists, nurses, barbers, heavy equipment operators and management all play a role in keeping the station running.
