From Invercargill we drove to Te Anau, then to Manapouri. We spent the night in Manapouri. The next day we went on a tour of Doubtful Sound. We took a boat across Manapouri Lake to the power station. The power station was built to supply power to the aluminum plant in Bluff. When the plant was first proposed the idea was to raise the level of the lake. The people objected. Rather then raising the lake, they lowered the plant. The power plant is underground.

After touring the plant we took a bus to Doubtful Sound, the a boat on a tour of the sound. We encountered seals and dolphins. If you are in the area make this one of your stops.
